Tribute concert raises £2,000 for life-saving research

A packed audience at Fairycroft House in Saffron Walden came together this month for a very special evening of music celebrating the life of Bill Glass – a much-loved local musician, teacher and mentor who spent decades supporting the town’s vibrant music community.

The concert, organised by those who knew Bill best, brought together local musicians and performers for a heartfelt celebration of his life. Fairycroft House, a community arts venue where Bill was a regular at monthly jam nights, provided the perfect setting for an evening of performances from bands Bill either played in or supported.

A fitting tribute to a local legend

Bill Glass was a talented, self-taught musician whose career spanned decades and inspired countless performers across Essex and Hertfordshire. A founding member of local favourites including White Glass, 3 Blocks West, Between The Lines and The Soul Traders, Bill was renowned for his rhythm, warmth and generosity in helping others grow as musicians.

Thanks to ticket sales and kind sponsorship from Pelly's, a local solicitors' firm, the concert raised over £2,000 to support life-saving research. The funds will help drive pioneering work at the Roger Williams Institute of Liver Studies, where scientists are developing new treatments for conditions such as cirrhosis, liver cancer and acute liver failure.

“Bill was a rock – an ever-constant musical presence guiding and developing my gigging skills and experiences.
– Jumbo Barker, Bill's friend who led the oragnising of the concert
There must be many like me whose life was changed for the better by meeting Bill.

The Foundation for Liver Research extends its sincere thanks to the organisers, performers, Fairycroft House, and the Saffron Walden community for their incredible support.
