Conferences and Meetings

SEPTEMBER 2023

To coincide with the beginning of Diversity Week 2023 (25 September to 1 October 2023), the Roger Williams Institute of Hepatology is delighted to invite you to ‘All About Sex: Unravelling Sex-Based Differences in Immunity and Inflammation’, a web symposium funded by an EDI grant from the British Society for Immunology which will take place on 25 September 2023 online and in-person at the Institute.

There is increasing scientific interest in how biological sex shapes immune responses and contributes to predisposition and susceptibility to disease, including inflammation, autoimmunity, infections, cancer, and response to vaccines. However, there is still much to be learned about the underlying mechanisms and their implications.

This symposium aims to give a state-of-the-art overview of the latest findings and future directions in this field, to promote scientific exchange and facilitate new collaborations. The seminar will also provide an opportunity to learn about how these findings can be translated into clinical practice to improve clinical studies and patient care. Ultimately, we hope that the seminar will contribute to a better understanding of sex-based differences in immune functions, and how this knowledge can be employed to improve basic, translational and clinical research, with an outlook to more personalized and effective approaches for the investigation of a wide range of diseases.

The symposium is jointly sponsored by the British Society for Immunology (BSI) and the Foundation for Liver Research and will take place in web format to facilitate the participation of international speakers and allow for global attendance. A small in-person audience will also be able to attend the meeting on site at the Roger Williams Institute of Hepatology (London, UK) through our hybrid seminar platform.
